In the West End neighborhood of Hillsboro Village, the Sunset Grill is that rare breed of restaurant that's both critically acclaimed in the national press and an enduring customer favorite with the locals. The decor is minimalist and monochromatic with original paintings to liven things up a bit. The menu changes daily, with an emphasis on seafood preparations. After all these years, I can't resist the Sonoma Salad, a scrumptious combination of mixed field baby greens, tart apples, almonds, and blue cheese in a pink wine-garlic vinaigrette. Others may prefer the ostrich carpaccio, spicy voodoo pasta, or Szechwan duck. Desserts, such as coconut sushi or butterscotch-habanero bread pudding, show creative panache. On Sundays, Sunset offers half-price wine specials. With more than 300 varieties by the bottle and more than 100 by the glass, you have plenty of choices.
