Description:
When executive chef Joe Shaw, a protégé of Birmingham's renowned Frank Stitt, opened this fine-dining spot in The Gulch in late 2005, Nashvillians had high expectations. Shaw delivered, but his departure two years later did little to dampen Watermark's immense appeal. The sophisticated urban dining room and bar is a sleek, modern space, done in blacks and whites. Exquisite preparations of Southern-influenced delicacies include the stone-ground grits soufflé with goat cheese and apple-smoked bacon butter sauce; and the sweet potato ravioli with ham hock pot liquor. Local and regional products, such as artisanal cheeses and farm-fresh produce, enliven the flavors brought to the table by experienced wait staff. Be sure to save room for blackberry crisp with almond brittle ice cream for dessert.
