Description:
- Located within walking distance of the main downtown shopping district, The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas sits in the heart of "Old Nassau" within a beautiful former mansion - Villa Doyle - which dates back to 1860. The mansion underwent a seven year restoration to its current glory and with its wood floor porches and position on the top of a hill overlooking Nassau Harbour (where the cruise ships dock) the house presents an excellent spot to gain a bird's eye view of downtown Nassau as well as the chance to see some of the country's best artists display their works. On a yearly basis, the gallery will present several different exhibitions showcasing the work of various artists, ranging from the legendary and traditional to the more cutting edge. The NAGB has a mission to collect, preserve and promote a national collection of art of the Bahamas for the benefit and education of Bahamians and visitors. For those of you looking for souvenirs, the gallery houses a shop selling originals, replicas and prints of Bahamian art pieces, along with handmade items including jewelry, baskets, quilts, clothing and catalogues of past exhibitions.
