Camping isn't "frowned upon", it's just that Private Property isn't always clearly marked, and so trespassing may be an issue. There are several youth camps in Nassau for organised camping, but no public camp grounds like exist in other parts of the world.

Well I live in Freeport Grand Bahama and we don't camp here too often, but when we do, we would go out east near the Missile Base which is out East near High Rock.
This is about 45 miles east of Freeport. It is very peaceful, quiet and safe out there. And the Beach, oh the beach is magnificent. We also have a few keys just off Grand Bahama Island, boaters can take you out for a small fee.

Carla has an excellent point. Although many of the out island have lots of vacant land that can be privately owned or even more so owned by the Bahamas Govt, i would advise you to check with the local police department on that island. Once they have an idea that you are or will be camping a certain place there may not be a problem with it. We do have a law aptly called squatters rights so by informing the local authorities may help you in your camping expedition, however i seriously doubt that the local authorities will allow it on the island of New Providence (Nassau)
