• If you favor the trend toward intimate, boutique-style hotels, this is a preeminently classy option situated in Friends Colony, a smart residential quarter in the southwestern part of New Delhi. The Manor has been featured in a number of design books and magazines like Tatler and Condé Nast Traveler. It may not be within walking distance of any attractions, but the neighborhood provides a wonderful respite from the madness and traffic of the city; it's also where you'll most likely meet a refined social elite, either in one of the many restaurant spots nearby (ask for recommendations) or at the local Friends Club (entry to which your host should be able to organize). Guest rooms have a smart, contemporary look; units on the ground floor have private terraces. This is really one of the most elegant (all muted colors) and contemporary (a great mix of materials like silk, terrazzo, onyx, and granite) options in Delhi, with pleasing designer furnishings, yet without any over-the-top opulence; it's simply a lovely, relaxing, and friendly place to experience Delhi at it's most hassle-free (management will attend to any and all travel and transport needs, leaving you to get on with the business of enjoying your vacation). The Manor also has a fabulous chef, and the little restaurant, "77", has quite a reputation about town. Service is gracious, with an intimate atmosphere unmatched by the larger city hotels. Besides the soothing terrace and lawn (lit up with lanterns at night), there are promises of the imminent relaunch of the in-house swimming pool, and a spa is on the cards for 2008.
