Gandhak Ki Baoli

Description:

  • A quiet lane from the Mehrauli village leads to the Gandak Ki Baoli. It is a five-tiered step well built in the 13th century with huge sandstone rocks. Its water comes from a sulphur spring. A dirt track leads to Rajon Ki Bains, a much bigger step well, built during the time of king Sikandar Lodi. Step wells were water sources for villages and kingdoms in ancient times, a kind of a water reservoir, which depended on underground water. The area is surrounded by a lush, green forest. Surprisingly, very few visitors know about this baoli.
