Kalkaji Mandir

Description:

  • Thousands of pilgrims throng to the temple, especially in October and during the nine days of the festival of Navratri. The oldest portion of the temple was built in 1764 but a substantial part is new. There is nothing exceptional about the architecture; it is the usual design found in all Hindu temples. Small red flags decorate the temple and women outnumber men among the devotees. The area around the temple is quite chaotic, with small shops and vendors everywhere. According to a local legend, a cow who had mysteriously stopped giving milk, started doing so for the godess Kalka. A farmer built this temple to honour the God.
