Description:

  • This unique festival symbolises a celebration of life and the fertile earth. Historically an agrarian community, this day is full of spark and festivity for the Punjabi folk. An extremely auspicious day, it marks the entry of the sun into the northern hemisphere. Children enjoy this festival as they go from door to door demanding 'Lohri' goodies, (in the form of money, sesame seeds, peanuts). In the evening bonfires are lit and popcorn, puffed rice, and other eatables are thrown into the fire. After this people greet each other, exchange gifts and sweets, amidst traditional song and dance.
