Description:
An agreeably dark (but not pretentious), nonseedy corner bar, this is a very typical New Orleans friendly but-not-overbearing place. Its Upper Magazine location means it's more neighborhood- than business-oriented. This may be the best typical New Orleans bar going right now; it has the right vibe without trying for the vibe at all, and it's not in the direct path of most tourists. Folk-art crosses hang from the (apparently) hammered tin ceiling, and the place is often seasonally decorated. At Halloween the cobwebs look as if they should be permanent. It has a sweet patio, a pool table, and a well-stocked jukebox with the likes of Ray Charles and the Grateful Dead.
