This boutique-hotel wannabe is connected to the larger and more traditionally elegant Astor Crown Plaza by a series of corridors and elevators, which makes for confusion if no one at the front desk warns you about this or lets you know that all the major facilities -- such as the business center, health club, and pool -- are over at the sister property. Then why, you may ask, should you stay here rather than there? It's cheaper. Rooms are narrow and small -- as in you-can-kick-the-wall-at-the-end-of-the-bed-if-you-are-tall size, though the exposed brick wall and period-style furniture help, as does the pretty dark marble in the petite bathrooms. Rooms also contain a desk with a comfortable executive's chair, and guests have access to a good restaurant, making this hotel a smart bet for the solo business traveler (rooms with two double beds are much too cramped) with no claustrophobia issues.
