FOUR POINTS BY SHERATON FRENCH QUARTER

Description:

  • A too-pricey chain hotel, with modestly good-looking, vaguely Southern decor, plus cottage-cheese ceilings and fluorescent lights in the hallways. The justification for staying here is the location: the former site of the 1859 French Opera House -- the first opera house built in the United States (it burned down in 1919). Party animals should note that this means the hotel is right in the middle of the liveliest action on Bourbon, and many rooms (not standards, though) have balconies overlooking the mayhem below. If you have a serious commitment to sleeping, though, choose another place to stay, or at least request an interior room. On the other hand, there are worse ways to spend a N'Awlins evening than having a pizza on your balcony while enjoying the free show on Bourbon Street below. All rooms have king-size or double beds. The pool is fine but unheated. The Bourbon Street Cafeteria serves breakfast.
