Description:
Here you'll find the best of both worlds: antique living just blocks from Bourbon Street mayhem (though the Lafitte's cute little parlor seems almost antithetical to rowdy merriment). The three-story brick building, with wrought-iron balconies on the second and third floors, was constructed in 1849. Thanks to Katrina, a big hole in the roof sent water pouring down the walls (a Donald Trump waterfall effect, but not for beautification purposes!), but it's been completely restored, and is better than ever. They took advantage of the situation to replace the furniture (keeping the same visual idea), upgrade linens, and so forth. Each room has its own mostly Victorian flair, with thoughtful touches such as pralines on the pillow and even white noise machines to handle Bourbon Street ruckus, which is an excellent idea. Some rooms have balconies overlooking Bourbon. Room no. 21 has its own sitting room, while garconerie rooms are smaller and probably best for singles. Room no. 5 is in the old stables in back and has a tiny loft (the ceiling may be a little low for a tall person). It has a wonderful quality, good for a couple wanting a little extra privacy. Breakfast is delivered to wherever you want (your room, your balcony, the courtyard). The owners are committed to supporting their city and now only use products from local vendors. Altogether, a delightful little place.
