If you are looking for something interesting but not overwhelming in either vision or price, this sweet cafe (about a 10-min. walk from the Esplanade end of the Quarter) should suit the bill. Breakfast and lunch are both served all day, with breads, enormous biscuits (served with homemade jam), and bagels baked on-site. There are sandwiches such as grilled crabmeat with brie, big salads, and, of course, cake -- coconut, red velvet, pineapple upside-down, all the down-home flavors. A buck gets you a cupcake with your lunch, and there are other specials as well. If the crowd at Elizabeth's is too daunting, this makes an adequate substitution.
