Description:

  • This six-floor, red brick hotel in the West Village is a restored residential hotel that still serves as home for some long-time tenants. Standard cabins—said to resemble either the cabins of a ship or an old-fashioned luxury train car—measure around 50 square feet and are outfitted with a custom-made twin bed and a single shelf (along with modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi and iPod docks); they share the communal bathrooms located on each floor. There are also bunk bed cabins, which accommodate two travelers, and captain's cabins, which offer a great deal more space, as well as private bathrooms and views of the Hudson River. Decked out in a quirky, bohemian style, the Jane obviously caters more to single travelers rather than families, and will appeal to visitors on a budget, as well as those seeking a hip downtown location from which to explore the city. There is a branch of the popular Café Gitane in the lobby, as well as the hotel bar.
