    • The former Pickwick Arms, in Midtown East, has been converted into the high-tech Pod Hotel, the perfect NYC hotel for the thrifty hipster. The four types of rooms, or "Pods"--Queen, Double, Single or Bunk--borrow ideas from mass-transit style (built in shelves, etc.) to save much-needed space and keep prices low. Some rooms have shared bathrooms. All the pods (even the ones with bunk beds!) are decked out with modern amenities like LCD televisions, in-room iPod docking stations and free Wi-Fi. Decor is modern and sleek, with splashes of color, and common areas include an outdoor cafe and a roof deck.
