No, it's not on the luxury level of the Peninsula or the St. Regis down the block, but after a multimillion-dollar renovation that spruced up the rooms with citrus tones, modernized the lobby, added amenities such as champagne or sparkling water upon check-in and a 24-hour self-service coffee bar, and a charge of about half the price, the Shoreham is a more than worthy, less-expensive alternative to those other hotels down the block. Rooms vary in size and amenities, and though all have been upgraded or totally renovated, it's better to spring for a deluxe or a suite where you will get a bigger bathroom, some with five-head rain showers and Jacuzzis. The hotel offers the little extras that give you value, such as a complimentary shoeshine, New York Times, two bottles of Voss water, wireless Internet, and for fashionistas, a complimentary daily copy of Women's Wear Daily.
