NileGuide Expert Says:
This is the star French chef's second try at capturing NYC restaurant magic; housed in the stately St. Regis hotel, Adour is decorated by design guru David Rockwell. As for the food, the focus is on high-quality ingredients and flawless preparation--at a steep price.
Description:
- Alain Ducasse's latest attempt to conquer NYC, Adour's a vino technopolis built by the guys behind Nobu, and gussied up in old school opulence: goatskin-topped bar and tables, leather-wrapped vestibule, and dining rooms w/ mirrored ceilings, so you can see how studly you look sliding your...chair under the table. The mainstay's French and American wines paired with regional takes on French dishes, e.g., Duck Breast Filet w/ Creamy Polenta, and Roasted Colorado Lamb Loin in Apricot Mi-Confit -- as delicious as it is reflexive. But don't let the finery fool you, this is the future: a tech'd-out, 4-seat tasting bar presents the wine catalog via a touch-sensitive menu beamed onto the bar top; tap the menu to display varietals, grape origins, and producers -- effortless, lazy-making gadgetry that'll make you, for one, welcome our new wine overlords. The same oeno-tech's employed in Adour's 8-seat private dining room, which is also decked out with 50 private, for-sale wine vaults holding up to 12 bottles -- so even if wine's hyper-advanced machinery ultimately fails, wine will slumber on. Waiting.
