  • NileGuide Expert Says:

Diners are encouraged to share the small plates of spicy, messy Malaysian food; standouts include the namesake crab dish (chili Dungeness crab served with toasts to absorb its thick spicy sauce), the short ribs, and the chicken wings.

  • Description:

    • If you think you know all there is to know about seafood, you might want to step into Fatty Crab. Not only is the food innovatively different, you can get messy with the food, without drawing attention. The Malaccan Black Pepper Mussels, Watermelon Pickle and Crispy Pork, Java Mee, Nasi Lemak, and of course, Chili Crab are simply worth their salt. The wine list and beer deserve a special mention. Late hours see more people venturing into this little Malaysian eatery. The wait staff could learn a thing or two, but otherwise the experience is worthwhile.

      Tight squeeze but great food

    • Loved the food, everything they served was amazing. All done family style so everyone got a little bit of everything. The space was a bit tight, but that is expected in NYC.

    Message from Fatty Crab

The brain child of talented chef / restaurateur Zak Pelaccio, Fatty Crab is an homage to Malaysian cuisine and culture. Nestled in the West Village, Fatty Crab serves up authentic Malaysian specialties bursting with flavor like his Watermelon Pickle and Crispy Pork Salad & Wonton Mee Soup. Look for inventive cocktails like the Fatty Sling and East India Cocktail. The comfortable atmosphere inspires a vibrant energy, thanks in part to the young, highly knowledgeable staff and fun mix of rock-n-roll classics playing in the background. The menu lends itself perfectly to whatever night you have in mind, whether you're in the mood for noodles and wine, Chili Crab and cocktails, or bar snacks and beer (of which there is a wide selection including Hitachino and Rogue Black Obi Soba).
