- The Amagansett National Wildlife Refuge was established on December 16, 1968, as the result of a land transfer from the U.S. Coast Guard. The refuge is situated on the Atlantic Ocean on Long Island's south fork along SR 27. The NWR consists of a unique double dune barrier which plays a significant role in wildlife protection.
