Description:
The self-proclaimed "radical bookstore, fair-trade cafe, and activist center" in the Lower East Side packs a lot of literature and activity into its Allen Street storefront (a block south of Houston St.). In addition to books on queer and gender studies, capitalism, feminism, democracy, and liberation, they also carry "good ol' smutty fiction," as well as a variety of independent magazines, journals, and alternative menstrual products (probably the only bookstore in Manhattan so equipped). There's a cafe, so you can buy a cup of tea or coffee before joining the Dyke Knitting Circle or stepping up with your latest poem at an open mic.
