- After half a century, Brooklyn got a professional sports stadium when what was then Keyspan Park opened as home to the single-A league Brooklyn Cyclones, an affiliate of the New York Mets. Management has wisely kept prices low, so the crowd is very family-oriented. Also, bleacher seats are sold only on the day of the game, at the Boardwalk gate. It's a nice, folksy feeling, and the young players (talented teen-agers, for the most part) seem to respond well. To enhance the experience, management usually picks a former Mets player as the manager, and the Staten Island Yankees are a traditional rival. The gaudy lighting is a great complement to adjacent Coney Island amusement area. And the vast gift shop includes memorabilia from the Brooklyn Dodgers.
