• Lying 50m (164 ft.) from the sea, and just west of the landmark place Masséna, this is one of the bargains of Nice. Some two dozen marble steps lead up to the lobby, which is decorated with mirrors and paintings. Stairs, no elevator, take you to the bedrooms that range from small to spacious. We won't even pretend the bedrooms are state of the art, but they are clean and comfortable, if a bit frayed here and there. The best room is no. 5, adjoining a terrace garden where breakfast is served. The best units are on the third floor with private balconies or terraces, some opening onto distant views of the water. The tiled bathrooms are small, containing shower units. No one ever complains when it comes time to pay the bill.
