She's back! Long hailed as a Queen of the Nice Riviera, this glittering seaside palace on the promenade des Anglais reigned from 1929 to 1978 and then was shuttered. In its heyday, and in its hotel theater, everybody performed from Maurice Chevalier to American chanteuse Josephine Baker, wearing high heels, a skirt of bananas, and nothing else. Its Art Deco facade was left intact after a restoration, but the interior was gutted and deck with marble and glamorous touches such as plush hallways and modern amenities such as a heated outdoor swimming pool. Monumental chandeliers and stained-glass windows, among other architectural features, were spared in the renovations. Bedrooms, midsize to grandly spacious, are outfitted in a tasteful modern decor, with luxurious bathrooms with a tub and shower. Ninety of the bedrooms also open onto sea views. Behind the facade, the hotel's casino has been restored to its Art Deco glamour.
