Description:
Nice is the perfect place to visit for travelers who want all the luxury of French Riviera beaches but don't want the snootiness and extravagance of some of the neighboring cities like St. Tropez or Cannes. Don't worry - the sun shines just as brightly, and the beaches are just as inviting.
Day Note:
Begin your vacation with a walk along the Promenade des Anglais, which wanders all the way down Nice's beachfront. You can figure out which public beaches look most inviting, and admire (or envy) the private beaches along the walkway. One private beach that you can visit and lounge on is Bambou, right off the Promenade. If you feel like seeing any of the city's sights during the day, particularly notable are the Chateau de l'Anglais, a decadent pink castle...read more

Description:
Once a prison, La Pérouse has been reconstructed and is now a unique Riviera hotel. Set on a cliff, it's built right in the gardens of an ancient château-fort. No hotel affords a better view over both the old city and the Baie des Anges. In fact, many people stay here just for the view. The hotel resembles an old Provençal home, with low ceilings, white walls, and antique furnishings. The lovely, spacious rooms are beautifully furnished, often with Provençal fabrics. Most have loggias overlooking the bay. The bathrooms are large, clad in Boticino marble, and hold tubs and showers.

Description:
On Mont Boron you can't help but notice the large pink castle amidst the throng of stunning villas. It's a rather peculiar sight, like something created out of a fairy tale as a treat for a good little girl. This fascinating structure was built in 1858 for Robert Smith, the English colonel of the Indian army which not only explains where the name 'Château de l'Anglais' (The Englishman's Castle) comes from, but also the astonishing architectural blend of Gothic forms and Hindu palace influences. Nowadays it is divided into private apartments.

Description:
Several narrow, winding little streets open out into this square, which appears like an oasis of light from the labyrinth of shady streets and old, leaning buildings. The city's baroque Cathédrale Sainte Réparate has a place of pride here. Adding to the square's authentic character is the gray stonework, complemented by a small, charming fountain made of white stone. It's also here that you can taste the city's best ice cream at Fenocchio. A rather steep climb up Rue Rossetti will take you directly to the Parc du Château.

Description:
If you're someone who likes quiet surroundings and moments spent in peaceful contemplation, then come for a stroll on the wharf that leads to Nice's lighthouse. The stones take on a dazzling white appearance under the sun's rays and the light playing on the waves makes the sea glisten and sparkle with a brilliance that makes it a dancing blur before your eyes. Listen to the lapping of the water against the Pains de Savon (literally: loaves of soap), the enormous stones put in place to protect the sea wall. Here, silent fishermen - sometimes snoozing - wait for the fish to bite, while other people sunbathe - except when the sea is rough when you may get showered in sea spray! This refreshingly simple walk right in the heart of the city will do your senses the power of good!

Located in the heart of the city, the Port of Nice is situated just 4 miles from the Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport and a few minutes on foot from the city's main tourist attractions. It is the only French port with an NGV (High Speed Ferry) service to Corsica. The island can be reached within 2.5-3 hours, making day trips to Corsica possible; the crossing on traditional ferries otherwise takes between 6 and 8 hours. Two companies provide services to and from the island; these are Corsica Ferries and SNCM Ferryterranée. Services offered by the two ferry terminals include a tourist office, car park, WC, showers, baby changing facilities, games room and drinks & sweets machines.

Day Note:
You should definitely take a day trip to St. Tropez if you aren't planning on spending other time there, as it is a pleasure to experience the sumptuous lifestyle it is known for, as well as for its miles of beautiful beaches, of course. There are plenty of water activities to engage in, but it is also worth it to take a walk around town to see some of the sights, and definitely stop by the port if you're interested in boating, especially if a regatta is in...read more

Description:
Named in the 1950s after its founder, Camille, a Niçoise patriot (who preferred the Italian version of his name), this nine-table restaurant promises (and delivers) some of Nice's most authentic Provençal food. Just off cours Saleya, the dining room is adorned with pleasant, light colors and modern paintings, many of which are for sale. The menu changes with the seasons, as supervised by owner Stéphane Viano, but can include jumbo shrimp flambéed with pastis and served with deliberately undercooked vegetables; risottos with vegetables from the vendors of the nearby cours Saleya; filet of John Dory served with a confit of tomatoes and artichokes; and standing roasted rack of lamb served with Provençal herbs and Parmesan-dusted zucchini.
Day Note:
Spend the day at Neptune, which is a lovely beach for just sunning or for engaging in all sorts of on- and underwater activities. If you feel like exploring some of the areas outside the city, Sentier de Cap d'Ail is a nice place for a long walk along the water to see some of the properties and natural landscapes beyond the city's borders, although you can't do much swimming along here. Nearby is Peille, which you should visit if you're interested in seeing...read more

You can find it level with the famous Belle Epoque palace-come-hotel Négresco. Take advantage of the superb range of activities on offer, including pedalo boats, jet-skis, parasending, sea-water swimming pool, adventure playground for the kids, swimming lessons, table tennis, a pontoon... all under the watchful eye of a qualified swimming instructor/lifeguard. You'll certainly be grateful for the sun loungers as the beaches in Nice are pebbled rather than sandy. You can also enjoy great cuisine on the beach itself with an excellent menu to choose from, served on a delightful shaded terrace.

Description:
This is Nice's most prestigious and best restaurant. The walls are sheathed with panels removed from a château in Pouilly-Fuissé; a Regency-style salon is available for before- or after-dinner drinks; and a collection of 16th-century paintings, executed on leather backgrounds in the Belgian town of Malines, decorates the premises. A much-respected chef, Bruno Turbot, revised the menu to include the most sophisticated and creative dishes in Nice. They change almost weekly but may include turbot filet served with purée of broad beans, sun-dried tomatoes, and asparagus; roasted suckling lamb served with beignets of fresh vegetables and ricotta-stuffed ravioli; and a melt-in-your-mouth fantasy of marbled hot chocolate drenched in almond-flavored cream sauce.
