  • With such a diverse island as Oahu, there's an array of cuisine to match. You'll find everything from European to Asian, French to nouveau, and everything in between, as well as your favorite American fast-food restaurant chains. Besides attending an authentic Hawaiian luau, you can experience Hawaiian regional food at five-star and mom-and-pop restaurants found scattered around the island. Local favorites include Spam musubi (rice, teriyaki and seaweed), appetizers of poke (pronounced "poh-kee") and pulled-pork known as Kalua pig, which is usually served with a side of cabbage and a drizzle of spicy Thai sauce. Seafood is another popular choice for both locals and visitors to Oahu. Try the mahi mahi (dolphin fish), ahi (tuna), opah (moonfish), opakapaka (red snapper) or the kelaha shrimp. Fresh fruit like papayas, mangos and pineapples are favorite choices for dessert, as is ice cream and their famous Hawaiian shave ice. Dried fruit, known as crack seed, is a popular island snack and is usually made up of peaches, plums, apricots and cherries.
