Kawela Bay

Address:

Kamehameha Highway
96712 Oahu,

NileGuide Expert tip:

The middle and right end of the bay is the best for swimming.

Description:

Kawela Bay is long a long crescent shaped beach and bay with fine white sand and often calm waters. However, the best part may be that it is quite secluded compared to most other Oahu beaches. Located about one mile past the large Turtle Bay Resort if you're headed towards historic Haleiwa Town.

Although it was blocked off by the resort (who owns the access land), it has now been opened to the public and is marked with a sign asking beach goers to access at their own risk. The short trail in is easy and flat, and the large banyan tree along the way is a fun place for photos and for kids to run around. The beach usually boasts calm waters for swimming and stand-up paddling (you may instructors here advising people on the board) but it's not the best place for snorkeling due to the lack of reef.

Bring a lunch to spend the afternoon, otherwise food and shopping is nearby if you just want to drop in for a quick one.
