  • NileGuide Expert tip:

Go during the week for a less crowded beach.

  • Description:

    • A long white sand beach known as much for the general Hawaiian history of the area along with its rich surfing history, Makaha is as beautiful as it is intimidating when the waves are huge and perfect. The great news is that during the winter months, the ocean is calm, wonderful for swimming and pretty darn good for snorkeling. It's often uncrowded during the week, but during winter when the waves are good it can get quite crowded with local surfers.

There's full facilities here - lifeguards, bathrooms, and showers are available. It's quite a local spot, but as long you throw a nice wave and don't leave your trash you're good to go. Make sure to make it to Makaha, and spend the day. Kids will enjoy building sand castles with the fine white sand and everyone will enjoy the west side sunset.

So a take a full day and make your way to Makaha.
