- In 1971 Craig Sugihara founded Town & Country Surf Shop. The beginnings of this venture were humble - $3,000 in capital and an old barbershop in Pearl City which served as the original storefront. At the time, Kamehameha Highway was the only access to the North Shore and its epic winter waves. The south shore drew surfers to its shorelines for the summer swells. The name Town & Country reflected the shop's position between the two epicenters of surf on Oahu. Its strategic position and quality boards drove strong demand for Town & Country surfboards. Fueled by an unrestrained passion for surfing, Town & Country Surf has evolved into a multi-faceted surf company and has solidified its position as a worldwide industry icon. T&C Surf operates three divisions: surfboards, retail and licensing. The surfboard division operates from a state-of-the art shaping facility in Wahiawa. It provides our highly skilled board shapers with the best tools for designing and producing some of the world's most sought-after boards. The retail division includes eight locations on Oahu; Ala Moana Center, International Market Place, Kahala Mall, Pearlridge Shopping Center, Waikiki Trade Center, Ward Center, and Windward Mall. The licensing division has agreements around the world, including Japan, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand. The logo, suggested by a t-shirt artist, has a strong graphic character and deep meaning. Most simple and apllicable to surfing is - BALANCE.
