• Type: Hiking
  • NileGuide Expert Says:

Spend a sunny afternoon lounging in the sun, or sliding down this natural water slide. Caution, however, as the wet rock is extremely slippery.

  • Description:

    • Cool water from Oak Creek rolls through warm eroded sandstone, snaking its way through this extremely popular swimming area. On warm days in the summer, there is nothing like a few rides down this historic off shoot of Oak Creek. An afternoon spent at Slide Rock on a blanket with a good book is another great way to enjoy this spot. Swimmers are recommended to wear some kind of foot protection and keep in mind that the wet rock is extremely slick. Be sure to call ahead to confirm the park is open to swimmers. Slide Rock is located off of 89A, between Sedona and the Village of Oak Creek. Look for an apple packing plant on the west side of the road, then a parking lot with a small booth. Parking is $10 per car, and $2 for an individual or bicyclist. A short, but steep, trail begins on the other side of the road and zigzags its way down to the water.
