What is there to do for senior citizens in the lake merritt area in addition to the bonsai exhibit

The Oakland Museum of California is nearby the lake and is a worthy detour for art exhibitions and history of California. The Camron-Stanford House is a Victorian house museum right on the shore. If you're so inclined, the Lake Merritt Boating Center has kayak and small sailboat rental on the lake. The Oakland Public Library also has branches nearby, and for a bite on the lake, you could try the Lake Chalet Seafood Bar & Grill.
