Description:

The Ogunquit Museum of American Art is one of those rare museums where what is found on the outside is nearly as striking as its interior. Situated on an overlook above an exposed shoreline cove, the museum is surrounded by the breathtaking, raw power and scenic beauty of the Atlantic Ocean. The museum's grounds feature comfortable benches situated among large sculptures, a fragrant garden and a reflecting pool. No wonder that many visitors to this Maine Beaches landmark spend as much time outside of the museum as inside. Wonders also await those who venture within the museum's interior, which is open seasonally from May 22 to October 31. The Ogunquit features more than 7,500 square feet of exhibit space specializing in modern American art, from the 19th century to the present.  Among its 1,600-piece permanent collection is an impressive array of works by Maine-based artists who have called the Ogunquit art colony their home. The museum is a "must see" for those who enjoy art as well as the compelling beauty of the Maine shore.
