Although Omaha might get a bad rap for being a smaller city in the Midwest, those who have actually visited know that it is a unique city with a lot to offer. Home to five Fortune 500 companies, number one on "America's Fastest-Recovering Cities" list, an important transportation hub (it's centrally located in the United States), and with the highest number of millionaires per capita in the nation, Omaha is historically and economically important. The city features many historic structures and areas that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, a vibrant jazz scene, and three professional sports teams.
Located near the Old Market on 10th Street in downtown Omaha, The Durham Museum is a great place to learn about regional history and see cool vestiges of the past (old train cars and an authentic soda fountain, for example). The museum, which is actually an art-deco landmark, is housed in what was once a 1931 Union Station. Other places to visit include the Joslyn Art Museum, which is located on Dodge Street and features an impressive collection of art from the American West. Also check out the Lauritzen Gardens, the Strategic Air and Space Museum and the Henry Doorly Zoo. Spend some time at the Old Market, an important historic district in downtown Omaha that features great restaurants, bars, shops and galleries.
