  • Surrounded by the Oslo Fjord, forests, hills and mountains, locals are outdoors taking advantage of all nature has to offer whenever possible. November to Aprill offers a real winter wonderland. At the first sight of snow, the skis come out. According to a common saying, Norwegians are born with skis on their feet. On a crisp winter Sunday, you'll even see babies too young to ski being pulled in a pulk sled. 15 minutes from the city centre by metro, is Nordmarka Forest with miles and miles of hiking/skiing trails, as well as Korketrekkeren toboggan run.

In Sørkedalen, you can go sleigh riding or horse riding (gallopping through the snow is absolutely gorgeous). Back in the city centre, on main street, Karl Johan, you can try your skating skills at Narvisen outdoor rink.

For a less vigorous time, but no less enjoyable, Oslo offers lazy walks along paths and ridges with fantastic views, as wel as heaps of parks (some with wonderful sculptures just begging to be climbed. Out on the fjord, the many islands beckon with beaches, nature walks, wildlife and even medieval monastery ruins at Hovedøya.
