Description:
- Chequers is another of the many Oxford pubs that are huge and fun once you get inside, but that are so self-effacing from the outside that often even locals haven't heard of them. If you sneak down an alley in the High Street, you'll see a big checkered sign—the promise of good value cocktails, a mixed and friendly crowd, and bags of seating. Despite being extremely popular, Chequers is never so full that it's difficult to breathe. Being so central, it makes a good place to meet before eating or going out. This pub is certainly worth visiting, if only for the frisson of a rare discovery.
