- Enjoy a really great hour or two out trying to get to be a skilled punter! Punting boats can be hired by the hour here. A punt is a long, narrow, shallow-bottomed boat propelled by a long pole. Punting boats are for hire between Easter and September. It isn't easy but it is fun and the unfortunate few end up falling into the river (which isn't that deep). You can hire a skilled punter for an extra charge. There are also pedal boats. One of the delights is going along side of Christchurch Meadows and getting a different view of the Oxford college skyline.
