    • Look up "retreat" in the dictionary, and you will likely find a picture of Asilomar next to the entry. Nestled amongst a forest of Pacific Grove pines (and just footsteps from a coastal playground of dunes, bluffs, and surf), the historic conference grounds are an ideally surreal place not only for a meeting, but for any brand of family getaway as well. Even if you and yours manage to somehow tire of the peace and tranquility of this Julia Morgan-designed nature-enveloped sanctuary, note that the facility is located within just minutes of Downtown Monterey, and all its family-friendly attractions (from the Monterey Bay Aquarium to Fisherman's Wharf and everything in between). For a less hectic jaunt back into civilization, trot right across Sunset Drive to the Fishwife for some Latin-influenced seafood, fine wines, and unforgettable Key Lime Pie.
