    • Big Morongo Canyon Scenic Area is one of the 10 largest cottonwood and willow riparian habitats in California protecting an array of rare and endangered wildlife. The area is well known among the birding community, which has area counts totaling 235 species.

      Bradshaw Trail is a 70-mile dirt trail that traverses mostly public land and offers spectacular views of the Chuckwalla Bench and the Orocopia, Chuckwalla and Mule Mountains. This and the Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Area offer varied landscape punctuated by rocky hillsides and open valleys. Coon Hollow and Wiley's Well campgrounds offer limited amenities for trailblazers enjoying Bradshaw Trail. Sites are first-come, first-served. These two campgrounds are located within the Mule Mountain Long Term Visitor Area, where every year thousands of campers come to enjoy the warm temperatures, natural beauty and recreational opportunities for up to 7 months. Another Long Term Visitor Area is Midland, located eight miles north of Blythe.

      Recreational opportunities available in this area include OHV use, bird watching, wildlife viewing, wilderness backpacking, long-term and short-term camping, rock collecting, rock climbing, horseback riding, nature photography, scenic driving, and more.

      The Palm Springs South Coast Field Office is located along the coast encompassing Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego, as well as an inland portion stretching to the deserts.
