Considering spring skiing for end of march early April 2012. What are conditions like?

We don't have any skiing at all in Palm Springs, or the rest of the desert. There is skiing nearby in the mountains around Big Bear Lake, or up in the eastern Sierras around Mammoth. But Palm Springs is just a bit warm for skiing (the closest thing is cross country skiing that's possible in the winter at the top of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway).
