Palm Springs has its downtown VillageFest street fair every Thursday night (hours vary by season -www.palmspringsvillagefest.com), and there is the College of the Desert Street Fair on Saturdays and Sundays in nearby Palm Desert (hours also vary by season, but the fair always closes fairly early in the afternoon - www.codstreetfair.com).
In addition, Indio has a true flea market (on the east end of the Coachella Valley while Palm Springs is on the west end), I think that runs on Wednesday and Saturday evenings at the Riverside County Fairgrounds (http://maclinmarkets.com/indio.html).
If you're up for a short drive to the Joshua Tree Gateway Communities near Joshua Tree National Park (about a half hour from Palm Springs proper), then you'd definitely enjoy the Sky Village Swap Meet in Yucca Valley (at an old drive-in movie theater), on Saturdays and Sundays (www.skyvillageswapmeet.com).
Of course, the monster of desert flea markets is east on the Interstate 10, during January at Quartzite, Arizona.
