Museo de Ciencias Naturales

Description:

  • The permanent exhibition of the Museum of Natural Sciences is oriented toward kids and teens, and is reminiscent of the 1970s, with local stuffed animals in glass-enclosed displays of their "natural habitat," large plaster renditions of prehistoric sloths and mastodons, cardboard representations, and so forth. More unusual is the International Specimen Salon, an almost ironic, and sinister, display of donated hunting trophies -- to enter you must pass beneath two gigantic elephant tusks. Mounted on the walls are dozens upon dozens of African, Asian, and American animal heads including leopards, elephants, grizzly bears, buffalos, and wolves. There is also a reptile and insect display of specimens found in Panama, and a library.
