This resort is aptly named, for it sits beside one of the South Pacific's great beaches, a glorious curving stretch of white sand that faces west, toward Tofua and Kao on the horizon. And unlike so many beaches in the islands, at this one you can swim and snorkel at all tides. Of modern construction but with Tongan style, each light, airy bungalow has a porch facing the beach and is equipped with a cool tile floor, either a double or two single beds, and an ample bathroom with a tiled hot-water shower. Guests can take nature walks, watch a culture show, and catch a daily shuttle to Pangai. You'll pay extra for horseback riding, boat trips, and tennis at the local Mormon church (bring your own racquet and balls). The resort is closed December and January. Ocean Blue Adventures (tel. 60-369; www.tonga-dive.com) has its dive base here.
