Cathedrale Saint Spire

Description:

  • The Cathédrale Saint Spire is the only religious building which remains today of the ancient walled city of Corbeil. The first church on the site dates to the year 957, but was destroyed by fire several times until the current structure was built in 1437. A monumental entranceway which was once part of the monastery built during the 14th Century sits before the cathedral, giving it an imposing presence. Some remains of mural paintings from the 14th and 15th Centuries are still visible, and the decoration as a whole is representative of the gothic style popular at the time.
