  A simple hotel in the older style, the Henri IV offers good value for such a central location at the western end of the Ile de la Cité. All the rooms have a view over Place Dauphine, which some say is the prettiest square in Paris. This is just as well since the interior décor is nothing to write home about, but hopefully you will be out and about and you can walk to many of the city's major attractions from here. There is no lift in the 400-year-old building, so you might find it tiresome to walk up if you are staying on one of the higher floors – there are five as is usual in Paris – especially with luggage. When booking make sure to find out your room's bathroom arrangements. There are three choices – most of the hotel's 15 rooms have an ensuite shower and toilet, but one has just a shower and there is one with a bathroom and toilet.
