Le Moulin de la Galette

  • NileGuide Expert Says:

One of the most romantic places in Montmartre

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

Reservations recommended – a trip to the Musée de Montmartre beforehand will set the atmosphere of the the area's artistic heyday

    Description:

    • Of the 14 windmills, or moulins, on the hill of Montmartre that once ground the flour for Parisian baguettes, today only two remain. And this one had the good fortune to be immortalised by Renoir, at a time when artists, lowlife and highlife rubbed shoulders at the music hall here. Today the painting is in the Musée d'Orsay and the building is a smart yet romantic restaurant with fine cooking by award-winning chef Antoine Heerah. The fish, such as John Dory with razor clams or sea-bass tartar and scallop carpaccio with pink citron, comes from Brittany, main courses run to partridge with sautéed chanterelles and salsify or a green curry of duck, while a re-think or the standard French dessert results in an apple and quince tart with ginger sauce.
