An upmarket brasserie in an Art Deco palace

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

The plat des fruits de mer (seafood platter) is one of the specialities

    Description:

    • This brasserie was once the bar of the Vaudeville theatre. Under Haussmann's plans for redeveloping Paris, the theatre was demolished but the bar remained. Equidistant from the old stock exchange and the Agence France Presse news agency, its customers today dine within a room decorated in Années Folles (Roaring Twenties) style by the Solvet Brothers, and pay a little extra for their meal for the privilege. Seated in this Art Deco masterpiece you will be offered a menu featuring goose foie gras with pear chutney, calf's head with vinaigrette dressing or grilled sole, with rum baba or tiramisù to finish. The chef Jean-François Thorel is a stalwart of the Flo chain which owns this and several other historic French brasseries.
