Les Deux Magots

  • Cuisines: French
  • NileGuide Expert Says:

One of the great literary cafés of Paris

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

Sit outside to get the full flavour of the area

    Description:

    • Still giving out the literary prizes, as it has since 1933, the Deux Magots is more a café than a restaurant with a basic menu in the daytime from breakfast onwards that includes all the usual favourites - croque monsieur, salads and omlettes. In the evenings, there's a more extensive but still fairly reasonably priced menu with dishes such as guinea fowl with white truffle risotto and cod in creamy garlic sauce. The two magots for whom the café is named are carved Chinese figures that still hang on the walls of the café. They look down, as they have for the better part of a century, on a more touristy crowd now that was once the case, when Hemingway and Picasso were among its patrons. Nevertheless, it's in a prime people-watching spot in Saint-Germain and well worth a visit.
