Description:
For one of the great "tuck-ins" of Paris, all at affordable prices, even students from the Latin Quarter cross the Seine to dine on the large portions at this dive. The setting is laid back (actually a bit grimy), but the food is hearty and authentic. Who can forget the enormous mixed salads served in giant metal bowls? Its convivial atmosphere has been called "somewhere between old-school Paris and hip."
This is not the place to go to impress a date -- go here to eat to your stomach's delight on such recommendable main dishes as pipérade (Basque-style scrambled eggs with vegetables), cassoulet, potatoes with ham and Cantal cheese, and our favorite, ham in a creamy sauce with layers of gratin style potatoes that have been fried in duck fat. Okay, so it's a bit leaden, but devotees love it.

Staff is getting unfriendlier each time I visit Chez Gladines and food has always been on the cheap side.
