  • Park City, Utah is an all-seasons playground for outdoor recreation. With three full service, large-scale ski resorts, Park City has a reputation around the nation and world for its excellent snow sports. And with the requisite mountains to provide terrain for its skiing, Park City transforms into a summer heaven for mountain biking, trail running, hiking, horseback riding, and general nature enjoyment.

    Most winter visits to Park City are inspired by its skiing and snowboarding opportunities. Park City Mountain Resort provides an even spread of terrain types, a selection of restaurants and accommodations, and an extremely active ski school. The Canyons contains seven distinct mountain peaks and, because of its vast size, some of Utah's best powder stashes. Deer Valley Resort offers the highest level of luxury to its guests, whether it concerns slope maintenance, customer service, accommodations, or dining.

    But beyond the lift-serviced terrain of these resorts, you'll find world-class backcountry skiing -some of which can even be accessed (in part) by the lifts of these resorts. The Canyons is the most famous of the three for providing lift-accessed backcountry opportunities; in fact, many people purchase season passes at The Canyons simply to ski outside of its boundaries.

    Additionally, Soldier Hollow (of Midway) grooms kilometers upon kilometers of Nordic skiing lanes, and provides rentals for skate and classic skis. Host of many 2002 Winter Olympic events, it also provides opportunities to sample the sport of biathlon. For kids (and tired adults), it offers tubing lanes.

    If you want to test some tubing nearer to Park City, check out Gorgoza Park, just north of town. Or if you're in the area during summer, head over to Swaner Nature Preserve to hike or visit the indoor EcoCenter. Or steer toward the Nordic ski jumps of the Utah Olympic Park to witness bobsledding, skeleton, freestyle jumping, or Nordic ski jumping in action.
