Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort

• Located in Little Cottonwood Canyon, east of Salt Lake City and next to Alta, Snowbird has a big-mountain feel with massive, steep faces, bowls, challenging tree and cliff runs. Known for local skiers as the most serious resort, its 3240 vertical feet are covered in just one base-to-summit tram ride. Those with enough fitness on the legs lap the mountain dozens of times in a day, past some truly extreme terrain.
  
  Those wanting to take it a bit easier can do so -as Snowbird offers some beginner terrain, as well as plenty of intermediate runs. If you're feeling more comfortable on groomers, you can push it a bit on some of the mountain's steep, long corduroy runs.
  
  Beware: on any good powder day, Snowbird is going to be pumping with skiers -whether it's Saturday or Wednesday. Many excellent skiers and snowboarders move to Utah just to ski here. But there's a very reason they put up with the crowds!
