Description:

  • One of the annual highlights in the local Thai and Burmese temples is better known perhaps for the rare opportunity to splash water and hurl water bombs at each other. Strict Buddhist interpretation dictates this day to be the first day of the Buddhist New Year when the image of Buddha is showered and the pious doused with water in symbolic purification. In the evening a mini-procession starts where krathongs(leaf-cups) with lighted candles are sent off floating into the sea upon making a personal wish.
